Lehigh University women’s volleyball team came out with a win against the College of the Holy Cross on Friday night by beating the Crusaders in all three sets.

The first set began with a 2-2 tie until the Mountain Hawks worked up their momentum and led for the remainder of the set. The team cruised to a 25-14 win.

The second set was very similar to the first. Lehigh got off to a great start and led for almost the entire time. The final score was that same as in the first set: 25-14.

The third set was a much more competitive one. The Crusaders and Lehigh were engaged in a 11-11 tie halfway through the set. Lehigh finally broke through and gained a lead on Holy Cross, making the score 18-13. Although the set was slipping away from Holy Cross, the team did not go down without a fight. The score was later tied again at 21-21 and eventually the Crusaders gained a 23-21 lead on Lehigh. The Mountain Hawks then came back to pull into a 24-24 tie and then ultimately won by the narrowest of margins at 26-24.

The Mountain Hawks showed team unity and perseverance throughout the entire game. A positive performance came from sophomore middle blocker Taylor Carroll with four kills, four blocks and four digs. Two outside hitters, senior Jade Van Streepen and sophomore Morgan Lowe, each had 7 kills, while junior Stephanie Slater had 5 kills.

The Hawks have a chance to improve on their 7-7 overall and 2-0 Patriot League records when they play against the United States Military Academy Saturday in Leeman-Turner Arena at Grace Hall.
