College students are notoriously enthusiastic about Halloween costumes, but one Lehigh student’s spirited attire has pinpointed him as a perpetrator.
Terez Owens, ’16, has been charged with disorderly conduct and criminal mischief after allegedly breaking into a home while wearing a yellow Teletubby costume early Sunday morning, according to The Morning Call.
Just before 2 a.m., students living in the home, which is located in the 200 block of East Fourth Street, called authorities to report that someone had broken the glass on their rear door and entered their house, police said.
Owens allegedly stole Chinese food from the students’ refrigerator, placed it in a black purse, began banging on doors and left the scene before police arrived, The Morning Call reported.
Bethlehem police said that after officers went to Owens’ home, the young man answered the door still dressed in his Teletubby costume. The costume was reportedly spotted with blood, presumably from a wound caused by broken glass.
Blood was also found throughout the victims’ home.
“Not that many Teletubbies get arrested,” Bethlehem police chief Mark DiLuzio told The Express-Times. “You can’t make (this) up.”
“Teletubbies” is a popular BBC children’s show that was originally aired from 1997 to 2001. The show features four primary toddler-like characters named Tinky Winky, Dipsy, Laa-Laa and Po, who dress in vibrant, outlandish costumes.
According to the show’s official site, the yellow Teletubby is named Laa-Laa. The character “runs, jumps, skips, sings and dances…(and) also loves big hugs.”
