Women’s basketball defeats Hampton

The Lehigh women’s basketball team remained unbeaten on Tuesday by defeating Hampton University 85-67 at Stabler Arena.

The teams started scoring quickly and and went and forth with the Hawks up 19-18 ten minutes into the game. Hampton led at the half, but sophomore guard Kayla Burton and  junior forward Kerry Kinek sparked a turn around that led to their victory, with each scoring in the double digits in the second half. Burton totaled 13 points, sophomore forward Lexi Martins scored 15 points and Kinek scored a season-high 22 points.

Lehigh was able to convert on 69.8% of its free throws. The energy from the team was incredible in the second half. Burton’s aggressive attitude helped the team in a big way. Lehigh earned the victory on Education Day, where over 4,000 local school children came to watch Lehigh and Hampton compete.

They were a loud and enthusiastic audience from the start, and kept the energy up as Lehigh fought its way to victory. The end result leaves five-time defending MEAC champion Hampton at 0-5. Lehigh will face off with Saint Joseph’s University this Thursday at 7 pm.
