Going into this game, Lehigh had the hopes of pulling loose of a three way standings tie. Its mission was to beat Bucknell University to break into the top two in the league.
Unfortunately, Lehigh has now fallen to a tie for sixth place with Navy, losing 69-61 to Bucknell.
Lehigh was very close to tying the game in the last five minutes of the second half when a shot from junior forward Kerry Kinek only had Bucknell leading by two baskets.
Lehigh started out strong in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, Wednesday night, winning the tip off and scoring the game’s first four points from senior guard/forward Katie O’Reilly.
It wasn’t long after that Bucknell built on what separated them for the rest of the game, 3-point baskets.
Senior guard Sarah Williams came off the bench to score 10 of the Mountain Hawks’ points. Sophomore forward Lexi Martins who typically averages 14.5 points per game, had 11 points in the second half and two in the first.
The Hawks seemed to struggle at the free throw line this game. Bucknell shot 77 percent from the foul line while Lehigh shot 44 percent.
The Mountain Hawks will face Colgate University on Saturday, Feb. 28 at 7:30 p.m. at home in their final Patriot League game.
