The Lehigh football team competed in its annual spring “Brown and White” game Saturday afternoon at Goodman Stadium.

In a modified scoring system, the defense won the game 33-19 behind eight sacks, each of which counted for two points. Other situations that gave the defense points were stopping the offense on fourth down or creating a turnover.

Sophomore defensive lineman Tyler Cavenas led the way for the defense, totaling three sacks, including one on the second play of the game. Junior linebacker Evan Kauffman, who switched from fullback a few weeks ago, had two sacks as well.

Overall, Lehigh’s offense ran 63 plays, splitting time between the team’s four quarterbacks. According to the unofficial stats, freshman Brad Mayes went 6-for-8 for 56 yards while junior Nick Shafnisky went 2-for-5 for 14 yards. Shafnisky also scored on a 32-yard run, which was the only touchdown of the game.

With freshmen running backs Dom Bragalone and Micco Brisker out due to injury, fellow freshman Nick Thevanayagam had the most carries, running the ball seven times for 24 yards. Sophomore wide receiver Troy Pelletier led in receiving, catching five passes for 46 yards.

The game, which didn’t feature a real clock or full tackling, ended after a pair of drives with sophomore quarterback Brendan Craven going just 1-for-6 combined through the air.

The Mountain Hawks will hold their final spring practice on Monday.
