Must-See Mountain Hawk week 6: Lauren Bright

0

After helping the Lehigh volleyball team win four of its last six matches, freshman middle blocker Lauren Bright is this week’s recipient of the Must-See Mountain Hawk award.

Bright’s success was highlighted by her performance against rival Lafayette College on Oct. 18 where she tallied a season-high eight blocks to go along with nine kills in a victory. Bright consistently showed balance between her offense and defense as she also picked up 12 kills in a win over George Washington University on Oct. 11. She followed that with 11 kills in a win over Holy Cross three days later.

Bright received recognition for her play as she was named the Patriot League Rookie of the Week on Monday. The engineering major is the second Mountain Hawk to garner the award this semester.

Bright ended this week by matching her season-high eight blocks in a tight loss to Navy. She has started nine of 11 matches she’s played in and leads the team in blocks per set with 1.37 overall and 1.43 in conference play. Her conference play mark ranks her first in the Patriot League.

Bright and the Mountain Hawks will return to action Friday when the Hawks take on Bucknell on the road. The game is slated for a 7 p.m. start.

This is the sixth edition of what is a weekly installment in The Brown and White sports section. The Must-See Mountain Hawk series gives recognition to one of Lehigh’s top performers. This week’s recipient is based on the past two weeks because of Pacing Break.
