Lehigh men’s basketball overpowers Lafayette 81-55

The Lehigh men’s basketball team won handily for the second consecutive game, defeating rival Lafayette 81-55 Sunday at the Kirby Sports Center in Easton.

The team, led in scoring by senior Tim Kempton, got started early and refused to let up. After giving up the game’s first two points, Lehigh (16-11, 10-6 Patriot) scored the next 14, holding at least a seven-point lead for the rest of the game.

The Mountain Hawks led by as much as 32 with 6:44 remaining in the game, eventually holding on for the 26-point win.

Eleven different Mountain Hawks saw action, with four of the five starters scoring in the double figures. Kempton recorded his 16th double-double of the season with 22 points and 10 rebounds, while sophomore guard Kyle Leufroy and junior guard Kahron Ross put up 11 and 10 points, respectively. The two also combined for 15 rebounds.

Lehigh lived behind the 3-point line throughout the game, shooting exactly half of its 58 shots from beyond the arc. The 12 successful 3-pointers were tied for the team’s second-most this season and included four from senior guard Austin Price, who finished with 12 points.

The win was Lehigh’s fourth straight over Lafayette and sixth in the last eight meetings. The win also gave Lehigh its 10th league win, the third straight season in which the Mountain Hawks have reached double digits.

Lehigh will return home on Wednesday when it plays Colgate University at 7 p.m. in Stabler Arena.
