Psi Upsilon fraternity placed on disciplinary probation

UPDATE on 5/15: Psi Upsilon fraternity has been placed on disciplinary probation, according to the Lehigh Greeks blog.

The blog states a disciplinary conference was held May 15, and the fraternity was found responsible for all four charges brought against it. These charges came as a result of the Lehigh University Police Department finding an unregistered party at the chapter house, where a covered smoke detector, drugs and drug paraphernalia were found.

The fraternity will be on disciplinary probation until Dec. 18 and has to complete multiple requirements.

First, the fraternity must submit a list of behavioral standards for all members by Aug. 15. The fraternity must also work with the University Counseling Center to bring in a speaker to discuss drug use, which must be completed by Oct. 6.

Next, the fraternity must create a risk management plan with help from the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Affairs, the alumni office and Psi U’s national office. It must be completed by Sept. 15.

Finally, the fraternity must “work with IFC to develop a meaningful educational experience for chapter members,” which must be done by Oct. 6.

“The chapter admitted responsibility for the charges related to the unregistered party, and not responsible for the charges related to the drugs found in a bedroom,” the blog said. “The organization is responsible for the drug violations because they are responsible for what occurs in their facility. An investigation by the chapter did not find a responsible party, and it is clear that there was insufficient monitoring on the part of the members concerning activities that were going on throughout the house. When no individual member comes forward, the organization must be held accountable.”

Psi Upsilon might have violated the Lehigh Code of Conduct, according to the Lehigh Greeks blog.

The fraternity allegedly had four violations during an incident April 28 — unauthorized or illegal use, distribution or possession of any controlled substance or illegal drug; possession of drug paraphernalia; holding an unregistered event with alcohol; and irresponsible distribution of alcohol.
