A Lehigh University female student reported to police that she awoke in her Montclair Avenue apartment this afternoon at 1 p.m. to an intruder, according to a campus-wide email from police Chief.

The student said that she was disrupted by a noise, and when she woke up, she found “a man standing above her, who fled when she screamed,” Shupp said in his email. The victim’s handbag was stolen, but she remains unharmed.

The student described her intruder as an approximately 30-year-old heavy set male of Hispanic or light-skinned African-American origin. He wore “glasses, a light-colored baseball hat and a blue and white sports jersey,” according to the report.

In his email, Shupp reminded students to heed basic safety precautions, such as always keeping doors and windows locked and secure.

Lehigh University police and the Bethlehem Police Department are currently investigating the incident. Both departments encourage anyone with information relevant to the case to contact the LUPD at 610-758-4200, or the Bethlehem police at 610-865-7187.
