Army squeezed by the Lehigh women’s basketball team in a back-and-forth battle 66-62 at Christl Arena Wednesday night.

Despite Lehigh’s constant double team of Army’s Kelsey Minato, Minato, with 44.2 seconds left in the game, was able to squeeze through the lane for a scoop lay-up to put the Black Knights up by three, ultimately putting the game away.

After two missed layups by Lehigh, Army hit three out of four free throws to push the lead to six. Senior guard Sarah Williams knocked down a three to pull the game within three, but it was Army’s Olivia Schretzman’s foul shot that iced the game in the closing seconds.

It seemed as if Lehigh had gained control of the game midway through the second half as they went on a 10-2 run to take a two-point lead, but Army’s 14 offensive rebounds were just too much.

The discrepancy in free throw percentage may have been what set the two teams apart. Army shot an impressive 16-19 (84.2 percent) from the stripe while Lehigh shot 18-26 (69.2 percent).

Junior forward Kerry Kinek led the way for the Mountain Hawks with 15 points and six rebounds. Sophomore forward Lexi Martins and freshman guard Quinci Mann contributed 10 points each.

For Army, Kelsey Minato and Olivia Schretzman scored 23 and 19 respectfully to lead the Black Knights.

Lehigh will continue its season on Feb. 7 at home against Loyola University (Maryland).
