On Saturday afternoon, the Lehigh women’s basketball team had an opportunity to try to stay in the Patriot League race with the regular season winding down.
However, in a back and forth battle, the Hawks fell 59-51 to a persistent Lafayette College team.
With the loss, Lehigh drops to 9-7 in the Patriot League and 17-9 overall. This is their fourth loss in six games.
Despite the snow, the team made the trek to Easton to face off against its Patriot League rivals.
Lehigh got off to a shaky start and struggled to shoot the ball. Lafayette jumped out to a 13-6 lead early in the half and was able to stay ahead for the remainder of the first half. At the end of the half, the Leopards led 29-22.
Although Lehigh out-rebounded Lafayette 24-18, the Mountain Hawks struggled with shooting. Their field goal percentage was just 27 percent and they were zero for 7 from 3-point range.
After the half, the Hawks put on a more competitive performance. With the score 33-26 in the second half, Lehigh exploded for a 14-point unanswered run to take the lead 40-33.
One of the key players in this second half was freshman Quinci Mann who scored 14 of her 16 total points in this time. Lafayette, however, battled back. The game was tied 47-47 with less than four minutes to play.
Lafayette ended up taking the lead 55-50 with under a minute to play. There was not enough time for the Mountain Hawks to come back and Lafayette saw the game off for the 59-51 win.
