Hoverboards banned from campus

The possession, storage and use of hoverboards has been prohibited on Lehigh’s campus and all university buildings, according to an email from John Smeaton, the vice provost for Student Affairs.

The ban, also made on similar lithium batteries units, was in regards to significant fire safety risk after a consultation with Lehigh’s Offices of Risk Management and Environmental Health and Safety. According to the email, the batteries of such units have previously burst into flame.

The ban extends to residence halls, academic and administrative buildings and Greek housing, effective immediately. Failure to comply with the new regulation will result in a student conduct referral.
