Must-See Mountain Hawk week 7: Dominick Bragalone

0

During the Lehigh football team’s seven-game winning streak, it’s seemed like every offensive player has taken a turn being the dominant performer. This week, it was sophomore running back Dominick Bragalone.

Bragalone put together a three-touchdown afternoon Saturday when the Mountain Hawks hosted Fordham in a showdown between the top two teams in the Patriot League. He rushed 15 times for a career-high 192 yards, highlighted by a 70-yard explosion for six and added a pair of receptions for 34 yards.

The sophomore backflipped the script on the game, which was expected to be dominated by the country’s top rusher, Fordham’s Chase Edmonds. Not only did Bragalone gain 27 more total yards than Edmonds, but he also outscored him 3-0 in touchdowns, all of which he scored in the first half.

This game was Bragalone’s best of the season and his second standout showing in a row, after he rushed for 182 yards and a pair of touchdowns against Holy Cross last week.

His recent streak of success has brought back flashes of the explosive freshman campaign that allowed him to grab firm control of the starting job just part of the way through his first year. This year has been a slight step backwards for Bragalone in terms of statistical production, as he’s taken a back seat to the powerhouse of Lehigh’s passing offense. Last year he registered six 100+ yard games, while this was just his third in his sophomore season.

Following his explosive performance, Bragalone has raised his average rushing yards per game to 101.1, which has moved him into second place in the Patriot League just behind Edmonds. The two backs are also atop the league rankings, tied with 12 rushing scores.

Bragalone and the Mountain Hawks will play Bucknell on Saturday in their last home game of the season. The game will kick off at 12:30 p.m. from Goodman Stadium.
