Act Like You Know is Lehigh’s annual hip-hop theatre course in which students learn and practice the elements of hip-hop. The students present their findings by performing in a theater show that serves as their final exam for the course. On Dec. 9, theater instructor Kashi Johnson presented Act Like You Know for the 10th year in a row.

Johnson usually offers the class during the spring semester, but because of the significance of this show, she decided to hold the class in the fall instead. In celebration of its 10th anniversary, Johnson will be directing another theater show in the spring that will honor former Act Like You Know students and showcase current ones.

Inspired by the inclusive and dynamic aesthetic of hip-hop, Act Like You Know offers a space for the exploration of self and social justice that extends beyond the classroom. Johnson said the course has fostered an environment that transforms students into creators, exposing them to the creative process that comes along with group performance.

The class enables and encourages students to forge their own path of self-discovery that can only be acquired through vulnerability.

Act Like You Know is a show that tells the story of a group of people who bear it all on stage to act like they know what hip-hop is at Lehigh.
