When the game drew to a close, scores of Lehigh and Lafayette fans made their way out to the Yankee Stadium subway stop on East 161st Street and River Avenue to travel back to their hotels. Pushing through the crowds to get to fill their metro cards, Rivalry 150 fans were greeted with a pleasant surprise: free transportation.

Metropolitan Transportation Authority employees opened the gates and ushered Lehigh and Lafayette fans onto the subway free of charge. Fans cheered at their good fortune.

Lehigh alum Don Davis, ’66, ’73G, was grateful for MTA’s unexpected generosity to Rivalry 150 fans.

“They definitely wouldn’t do this in Philadelphia!” he said, laughing.
