Lehigh survives late comeback, beats Navy 65-63 to advance to semifinals

Junior center Tim Kempton tallied 22 points and 17 rebounds as Lehigh men’s basketball defeated Navy in a 65-63 thriller Thursday night at Stabler Arena.

With 25 seconds left in regulation, Navy missed a pair of free throws down 60-57. Lehigh capitalized, scoring six straight points and eventually running out the clock. Navy hit a 3-pointer as time expired, but it was too late as Navy was trailing by five points.

Freshman guard Kyle Leufroy added 17 points, including going 9-for-10 from the free throw line. He made 5-of-6 free throws in the final 30 seconds of the game to help maintain Lehigh’s lead.

The Mountain Hawks appeared to be running away with the game early in the second half, leading by as much as 19 points. However, Navy went on a 25-4 run to eventually take a two-point lead with 6:58 left in the game.

Following the win, Lehigh will host No. 6 seed American University on Sunday at Stabler Arena.
