This is the second edition of what is a weekly installment in The Brown and White sports section. The Must-See Mountain Hawk series gives weekly recognition to Lehigh’s top performer on the field during the week.

After setting a career high in touchdowns last season against UPenn, senior quarterback Nick Shafnisky topped that performance this week by tallying six touchdowns against the Quakers to lead the Lehigh football team to its first victory this year.

Shafnisky threw for 317 yards while rushing for 71 yards, including a career-high three rushing touchdowns Saturday evening. The Whitehall native led the Mountain Hawks to 28 unanswered points to pick up a 49-28 win.

Coming into Week 3, Shafnisky had a total of four touchdowns in his first two games. He matched that total in the first half of game with two passing touchdowns and two rushing touchdowns. As a team, the Lehigh offense was limited to 21 points in each of its first two games, but the offense erupted for 49 points on the road against the defending Ivy League champions.

Shafnisky and the Mountain Hawks will face against another Ivy League opponent next Saturday afternoon at Goodman Stadium against Princeton.
