A sudden death playoff hole was the deciding factor as the Lehigh men’s golf team fell to second place out of 12, and Bucknell took the victory Saturday by one stroke at the Saucon Valley Country Club.

Lehigh finished its first round of tournament play on Friday with a score of 297. The Mountain Hawks sat atop the leaderboard by only one stroke at that time with both Bucknell and St. John’s right behind them.

Sophomore Johnny Hsu led Lehigh after the first round by posting a 1-under-par score that put him in a four-way tie for third place at the time. Junior Billy Johns was the next best Mountain Hawk at eighth place after posting a 1-over-par score.

However, after the second round of play that took place on Saturday, Lehigh was tied for first place with Bucknell at 609 points. A sudden death playoff hole, four pars and one bogey later, and Bucknell narrowly escaped with the one-stroke victory.

Hsu finished the tournament third overall after posting a score of 75 on Saturday. Johns finished 10th overall after shooting 8-over-par for the tournament. Freshman Ryan Kelly tied for 20th place with an 11-over-par performance.

This invitational wraps up the fall season for the men’s team as they look forward to the spring when competition resumes.
