This is the first edition of the semester of what is a weekly installment in The Brown and White sports section. The Must-See Mountain Hawk series gives recognition to one of Lehigh’s top performers.

After an efficient 20-point performance in an 80-64 win over Holy Cross on Saturday, Lehigh women’s basketball freshman Gena Grundhoffer is this week’s recipient of the Must-See Mountain Hawk award.

In 31 minutes of action, the Wisconsin native shot 7-of-9 from the field while connecting on both of her 3-pointers. Her 20-point total eclipsed her previous career-high of 19 points against Sacred Heart University in November. In addition to her contribution scoring-wise, Grundhoffer chipped in five rebounds and two assists.

Grundhoffer has quietly emerged as a rising star on the Lehigh women’s basketball team. In her first season in brown and white, Grundhoffer is second on the team in scoring with 9.7 points per game, first in total rebounds with 115 and second in free throw shooting at 83.3 percent. The 6-foot-1 forward has started all 26 games for the Mountain Hawks, playing 26.3 minutes per game. In her last three conference games, Grundhoffer is averaging 13 points and just over four rebounds per game.

Lehigh will return to action Wednesday when the Mountain Hawks travel to Annapolis, Maryland, to take on Navy. The game is slated for a 7 p.m. start from Navy Alumni Hall.
