The Mountain Hawks (3-0) beat the William & Mary Tribe (2-1) at Goodman Stadium in Bethlehem in the first home game of the 2026 season.
With this win, Lehigh holds the longest active regular-season winning streak in Division I, tallying 20 consecutive regular-season wins in a row.
This is the first time that the Mountain Hawks have met the Tribe since 1992, and Lehigh’s win was its second all-time against William & Mary.
Senior running back Luke Yoder had three rushing touchdowns, bringing his season total to 10.
Junior quarterback Hayden Johnson had 140 total yards and a rushing touchdown in the first half, before sophomore quarterback Derek Morgan took the helm in the second half. Morgan had 108 total yards and two total touchdowns.
Senior defensive back Joshua Jones and junior defensive back Luke Denny led the Lehigh defense in total tackles with eight, and sophomore transfer defensive back T.J. Hill notched an interception.
The Lehigh defense began the game continuing a strong performance from its last game, forcing William & Mary to punt after three plays.
On the third play of the game for the Mountain Hawks’ offense, current NCAA rushing touchdowns leader Luke Yoder broke off a 50-yard run, ultimately being tackled at the William & Mary 1-yard line. Yoder rushed into the end zone one play later, giving the Mountain Hawks a 7-0 lead early in the first quarter.
On the first play of William & Mary’s next drive, an errant snap went over the head of sophomore quarterback Carter Carroll, going out of the back of the end zone and resulting in a safety for Lehigh, bringing the score to 9-0.
After Lehigh junior kicker Connor Poole missed a 34-yard field goal attempt, the Lehigh defense stood tall to force another William & Mary punt after three plays.
Junior quarterback Hayden Johnson completed a 37-yard pass to junior wide receiver Nick Palumbo to get the Mountain Hawks into the opponent’s territory. Yoder capped off the 85-yard drive with a 1-yard touchdown run to extend the Lehigh lead to 16-0.
After 30 seconds into the 2nd quarter, Johnson left with an injury, bringing sophomore quarterback Derek Morgan in to lead the offense. Morgan immediately found Palumbo down the sideline for a 22-yard touchdown to bring the Mountain Hawks’ lead to 23-0.
Sophomore transfer defensive back T.J. Hill intercepted William & Mary’s Carroll for his first career interception.
Hayden Johnson returned to play with a 50-yard touchdown run down the right sideline, leaving the William & Mary defense behind as he brought Lehigh’s lead to 30-0.
This marked Johnson’s fifth touchdown of the season and his second rushing touchdown.
With 1 minute and 54 seconds left in the first half, sophomore running back Jah’Kei Chavis got William & Mary on the board with a 4-yard touchdown run to bring the score to 30-7.
Morgan returned for Lehigh to end the half, concluding a 75-yard Lehigh drive with an 8-yard touchdown rush to bring its lead to 37-7 going into halftime.
Hayden Johnson did not return to the field in the second half, with Morgan remaining at quarterback for the remainder of the game.
William & Mary junior quarterback Winston Watkins took the field for the William & Mary offense after halftime, leading them to the Lehigh 2-yard line before the Mountain Hawks’ defense held strong, forcing a turnover on downs.
With 13:01 left in the fourth quarter, William & Mary’s Chavis finished a 75-yard drive with a 1-yard touchdown run to shrink the Lehigh lead to 37-14.
The Mountain Hawk offense answered back, as Yoder rushed for an 11-yard touchdown to bring the Lehigh lead to 44-14.
This was Yoder’s third touchdown of the day, and his tenth total touchdown on the season thus far.
William & Mary quarterback Winston Watkins punched in a 1-yard touchdown, and failed to convert the two point conversion as first-year linebacker Josh Lenart intercepted the ball in the endzone.
The Mountain Hawks forced a turnover with 0:42 left in the game, and took a knee to end the game with a 44-20 win against the Tribe.
Lehigh will challenge Dartmouth next at Goodman Stadium on Sept. 19.
