An intruder was discovered this afternoon inside a student-occupied off-campus house on 500 block of East Fifth Street, according to an email from Lehigh University Assistant Chief of Police Stuart Bedics.

Bedics said the intruder left immediately when he was surprised by a female student who was in the house at the time. The student was unharmed and nothing was stolen from the house.

Shortly thereafter, the Bethlehem Police Department arrested the suspect, who will be charged for crimes committed.

“The LUPD reminds you that it is important that you continue to be vigilant
in regard to your safety, and to take basic precautions, such as locking
your doors and windows, and keeping your residence locked at all times,”Bedics wrote. “Please report any suspicious activity in your neighborhoods to the police.”

The LUPD offers additional surveillance to students living off-campus during university-administered breaks and vacations. Students are encouraged to register their residences with the LUPD in advance of any extended periods of time away from school.
