Both the men’s and women’s golf teams are off to strong starts after each played in two events to kick off their respective seasons.

The men’s team has finished no lower than sixth place so far, while the women’s team is not far out of range, finishing seventh as its lowest place.

In terms of points, the women are led by sisters Kelly and Megan Moylan. Kelly, a senior, and Megan, a first-year, had a ninth-place tie in Sunday’s Navy Invitational to help the Lehigh’s women’s team land in the fourth-place position out of 15 schools at the event. Meanwhile, sophomore Elizabeth McGarrigle tied for 14th place at the Bucknell Invitational to help keep the Mountain Hawks in the seventh-place position out of 14 teams.

On the men’s team, the season is going fairly well, according to Coach Henry D’Alberto. “We need to continue to practice and make sure that all five players are ready to compete each week,” D’Alberto said.

In week one, the Mountain Hawks tied for sixth place, with senior Carlos Kim tying for fifth overall at the Colgate Invitational. In the same event, junior Harley Abrams had an impressive performance, finishing in a ninth-place tie. Both Kim and Abrams have led the way so far for the men’s team. Their trend continued at the Rutgers Invitational, where Abrams tied for sixth place and Kim finished among the top ten to contribute to Lehigh’s fifth-place position out of 18 at the invitational.

For this Friday’s Tuxedo Autumn Invitational in Tuxedo Park, New York, D’Alberto mentioned that the team needs to improve on and around the green so it can lose strokes where it counts. D’Alberto also brought up that he, along with the help of Assistant Coach Joe Zelechoski, is going to work on the mental aspect of the game with the team.

The next event for the women this season is the Rutgers Invitational, which will be held on Oct. 10. The men will play against the Lafayette College golfers on Oct. 14, but before that, they have to prepare for Friday’s event.
