Lehigh men’s basketball falls short against Holy Cross despite strong second half

The Lehigh man’s basketball team was a roll, winning seven of its last eight games and climbing the Patriot League standings.

However, on Saturday the Mountain Hawks dropped a game against Holy Cross by the score of 58-52.

The team now sits at 14-11 with an 8-6 Patriot League record.

Despite only scoring 18 points in the first half, the Hawks battled back to get within four before the Crusader’s pulled away. This loss ended the team’s four-game winning streak.

The Hawks struggled from the beginning as Holy Cross went on an 11-0 run early in the first half. Although at times Lehigh showed some fight, its runs were quickly denied by the Crusaders as they led at half 30-18.

Lehigh was led by sophomore forward/center Tim Kempton, who had 22 points, and added 11 rebounds for his 11th career double-double. Freshmen guard Kahron Ross contributed 12 points, two assists and a steal as well as going five-for-five from the free throw line.

Sophomore guard Austin Price, scored 10 points, six of which came off of two 3-pointers he made in the second half. Junior forward Justin Goldsborough dominated down low, grabbing eight rebounds.

Lehigh had a tough day shooting. The team went 30 percent from the field and 19 percent from 3-point land. It had 14 turnovers compared to Holy Cross’s eight. However, the Hawks outscored the Crusaders in the second half 34-28.

The Mountain Hawks will look to bounce back quickly, as they travel to Annapolis, Maryland, to face Navy at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
