Bethlehem police, Lehigh University police and members of the state liquor control board entered 24 East Asian Bistro after 10 p.m. Thursday evening.

Underage students who were drinking alcohol were issued citations by the authorities on the scene. It is unclear at this time how many underage individuals were present or how many were issued citations.

The eatery, located at 24 E. 3rd St., is popular among Lehigh students because of its BYOB policy. The restaurant does not sell or provide alcohol, but customers are allowed to bring their own alcohol as long as they order food.

A Bethlehem South Side Ambassador outside of the restaurant said he saw police enter 24 East Asian Bistro and witnessed individuals leaving the restaurant looking visibly upset.

Around 10:15 p.m., there were several police officers in the restaurant taking information from the individuals inside. It was not possible to enter the restaurant due to police officers blocking the doorway from the inside.

So I would hope Lehigh would put the East Asian Restaurant on disciplinary deferred dissolution be sure that whatever residence facility these students live will be put on probation. The standard applied to fraternities is unreasonable and needs to be consistent across campus. Fraternities that don’t force students to drink underage should not be held any more accountable than East Asian Restaurant or M&M.

Another result of Lehigh destroying the fraternity system and the University joining the PC bandwagon. Good or bad this used to be contain on campus. Now we let the city Gestopo destroy our students lives and in the process make lawyer rich. Shame on us and Lehigh not my school anymore.
