Lehigh football suffered a 48-38 loss to Cornell at Schoellkopf Field in Ithaca, New York. This game marks Lehigh’s first regular-season loss since Oct. 19, 2024, and Cornell’s first win over a top-five team since 1939.

Sophomore quarterback Derek Morgan threw for 204 yards, while Cornell’s senior quarterback Garrett Bass-Sulpizio threw for 366.

Cornell had 234 total rushing yards, and Lehigh only gained 183 rushing yards.

Lehigh’s defense never forced a punt during the matchup.

The first quarter began with Cornell junior running back Jordan Triplett rushing down the middle for a 17-yard touchdown two minutes into the game.

After a three-and-out first drive from Lehigh, Cornell was able to make their way 86 yards down the field with four minutes left in the first quarter. Lehigh followed with another three-and-out drive.

The Mountain Hawks finally got points on the board when junior defensive back Luke Denny returned a fumble for 100 yards after Cornell made the blunder in their own endzone.

Cornell continued to power through Lehigh’s defense in the second quarter, taking only four plays to make it to the end zone again.

Lehigh had another three-and-out, and Cornell scored a field goal just minutes later. Lehigh senior kicker Connor Poole responded with a 22-yard field goal with seven minutes left in the half.

Cornell yet again dominated Lehigh’s defense on the ground, rushing seven times in 10 plays. Bass-Sulpizio had a quarterback keeper for a one yard touchdown with a little under two minutes left in the half to extend Cornell’s lead to 31-10.

Lehigh finally found the end zone again with Morgan connecting with junior wide receiver Jamaire Harden for a 21-yard touchdown to close out the half.

The Mountain Hawks showed some promise early into the third quarter, with Morgan finding Feaster for a 16-yard touchdown. Cornell matched Lehigh with a 3-yard touchdown pass to senior wide receiver Brendan Lee for a 38-24 lead.

Lehigh fought back in the fourth quarter, driving 69 yards down the field for a 3-yard rushing touchdown for senior running back Luke Yoder.

Cornell scored another touchdown followed by a field goal to extend their lead to 48-38, and on Lehigh’s final drive of the game, Morgan threw an interception to Cornell junior cornerback Tyler Gibson to end Lehigh’s undefeated streak.

The Mountain Hawks hope to bounce back on the road against Villanova on Oct. 24.
