Lehigh women’s volleyball hosted Army Saturday, where they defeated the Black Knights in three sets.
The Mountain Hawks, whose current overall record is 8-7, beat Army 25-21 in the first and second match, and finished off the game with a 30-28 win.
Although Lehigh is 8-7 overall, the team has defeated Lafayette College , College of the Holy Cross and now Army, making them 3-0 in the Patriot League Conference.
“Today’s game went really well,” said right side hitter and junior, Stephanie Slater. “Everyone played great and we are all very happy to be 3-0 in the Patriot League.”
Slater dominated the game against Army by having five kills in the first set and a game-winning block in the last match. Slater adds 112 kills to her total this year with the strong performance.
Lehigh sophomore, Morgan Lowe, also had three strong matches, leading the team with 10 kills and a .450 hitting percentage by the end of the second set. Lowe has had 114 kills this season, placing her right behind senior, Jade Van Streepen, who has had 125 kills.
“I thought we fought hard the whole game and I am very proud of my team,” said freshman middle blocker, Kelly Bennett, who leads the team with 33 blocks.
Although Army’s overall record is 5-10, they are 0-2 in the Patriot League, losing to both Lehigh and Holy Cross.
“I thought we had a great match against Army,” Lowe said. “Our passing and hitting stats were right where we wanted them to be, which is something we’ve been having a hard time achieving throughout the beginning of this season. The team’s energy was really high and stayed positive throughout the entire match, which was a huge plus for us, since we typically play better when we have that sort of energy. Beating Army in three straight sets was an awesome win for us and everyone was really excited with the result we had.”
The Mountain Hawks will travel to Baltimore, Maryland Thursday where they will take on Loyola University. Loyola has a current overall record of 2-11. Lehigh will be Loyola’s first Patriot League game of the season.
