This past summer, Kevin Cassese and Richie Meade coached together for Team USA at the World Lacrosse Championships. Now, head coaches of Lehigh and Furman University respectively, they were opponents.

Behind a career-high tying nine points (five goals and four assists) from senior attackman Dan Taylor, Lehigh defeated Furman 14-11 in Greenville, South Carolina.

The game marked Lehigh’s first win of the season. They move to 1-1 on the season, while Furman drops to 0-2.

After beating Furman 13-6 last year, the game was much closer this season, never going beyond a three goal difference.

Lehigh went into the third quarter with a 10-7 lead, but Furman scored the first four goals of the second half, taking an 11-10 lead. However, the Mountain Hawks then scored the final four goals of the game to win.

Taylor scored on every shot that he took, going an impressive five-for-five. Junior attackman Reid Weber added three goals and two assists, while junior midfielder Billy Oppenheimer and senior midfielder Kurt Kaunas each tallied two goals.

Furman just edged Lehigh in shots 39-38, while Lehigh won the ground ball battle 25-17. For the second game in a row, the Mountain Hawks split the faceoffs with their opponent, winning 13 of 26.

Lehigh will return home next week to take on Boston University at Banko Field on Feb. 21 at 1 p.m.
