The Lehigh women’s lacrosse team lost 14-13 to Loyola University (Maryland) yesterday afternoon in overtime.
In this Patriot League battle, the Greyhounds — reigning conference champions — came out on top but not without a fight from the Mountain Hawks. Junior attacker Allison LaBeau had six goals and one assist, junior midfielder Lauren Beausoleil contributed with important 50/50 possessions and junior goalkeeper Taylor Tvedt made 11 saves and three ground balls.
The game started with a good effort from Lehigh, with freshman Courtney Henig and sophomore Kierstyn Voiro netting the first two goals. Loyola fired back with three more in succession, which were answered by three from Lehigh in as much time, making the score 5-3 in Lehigh’s favor. From there, the Greyhounds went on a five-goal streak to end the first half at 8-5.
The second half began with two more goals from Loyola, but the game quickly became a back and forth grind until the 11th minute, when Lehigh scored five goals to bring it to a tie at the end of regulation. The game was ended in the first overtime by Loyola’s Emily Clark scoring the golden goal, making the final score 14-13.
Lehigh will face Lafayette College next Wednesday at home at 7 p.m.
