Cannabidiol (CBD) can be used in a variety of ways. From baked goods and candy to topical lotions, soaps and water solubles, CBD American Shaman sells it all.

Laura Penske and her husband, who co-own the store, opened up the first Bethlehem location of CBD American Shaman in August. Since then, they’ve seen their client base continue to expand.

CBD promotes homeostasis in the body, and it’s used by many to help with issues in two main categories neurological, and pain or inflammation, Penske said.

“It helps to even out the body’s imbalances, which is why it’s used in different areas by different people,” Penske said.

Dartagnon Thomas, an employee at CBD American Shaman, said CBD is a cannabinoid that isn’t psychoactive like THC is, so it has the same benefits of marijuana, but without the high.

According to scientific research and clinical trials, CBD can also help with seizures and the management of anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress disorder.

“I’ve heard a lot about CBD because my younger brother is using it for his seizures,” Thomas said. “So, I figured that if it was working for him, it could really benefit other people, and that’s something I’d like to be a part of.”

CBD American Shaman is different because they use a proprietary nano-technology, Penske said, which means the particles are broken down so it covers more surface area in the body.

“This makes our products nine times more bioavailable than any other CBD on the market. It’s absorbed better, faster and lasts longer in your body,” Penske said.

Although she has tried other CBD brands before, Penske said she believes that she’s seen the best results from CBD American Shaman to manage her own anxiety, because of the product’s nanotechnology.

Penske recommends a 0.5 milliliters (5 milligrams of CBD) dosage twice a day, which is why she sees a consistent customer base.

As a regular customer, Jennifer Chahine from Beautique Hair & Nails on the North Side said she has experienced noticeable improvements from using CBD American Shaman products.

“The oil concentrate just recently saved my wrist because my wrist locks up, and obviously I need my wrist to do my clients’ nails,” Chahine said. “But after using the oil, it went away in like a day or two.”

In addition to the oil concentrate, Chahine said she also uses their CBD lip balm, water solubles and topical lotions.

She said CBD American Shaman’s products differ from prescriptions because she knows what’s in them.

“I love their products because it’s all-natural ingredients, and at the same time, really soothing,” Chahine said.

The top-selling products of CBD American Shaman are water solubles, which can be used in hot or cold liquids, Penske said. They offer samples of their water solubles in a wide variety of flavors, as well as samples of CBD kombucha, which is made by a local kombucha brand called Portch Tea.

Penske said their second best selling products are topicals, which includes topical creams, body lotions, lip balms and serums.

“We use their (CBD American Shaman) lotion here at the salon,” Chahine said. “It’s just a really natural and soothing hand cream that my clients love. Some people are a little afraid to try it, but those who have, have given me really good feedback.”

CBD American Shaman also sells products for pets including dog treats, CBD hemp oil tinctures and water solubles for animals.

CBD American Shaman has over 300 franchises nationwide.

“I’m glad that they opened one in Bethlehem, because so many people nationwide use their products, and I feel like I can trust them more than any other brand,” Chahine said.

Penske said the company is still working on spreading awareness and education about CBD and its benefits. She said in the future, they hope to open more locations throughout the Lehigh Valley to attract more customers.

CBD American Shaman is located at 9 E. 3rd St., and is open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday-Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday.

  6. After reading this blog, I have come to the conclusion that the most innovative CBD manufacturers are making use of nanotechnology in order to produce CBD products that are exceptionally potent, pure, and of high quality. The results of this CBD tincture have far surpassed those of competing products that don’t make use of nanotechnology. It is wonderful that it lasts for a longer period of time because it has helped me become much less sensitive to circumstances that used to cause me a lot of anxiety.
