The spring 2021 semester will begin Feb. 1 — with no spring break as previously scheduled — to mitigate student travel during the pandemic, Provost Nathan Urban announced in a campus-wide email Oct. 9.
The first day of spring classes was originally scheduled to begin Jan. 25.
The administration created a condensed schedule in order to encourage students to remain on campus after arriving for the spring semester to reduce the spread of COVID-19.
“We anticipate that arrival on campus will involve a COVID testing protocol, the details of which will be provided at a later date,” the email said.
At the time of the email, there are no expected changes to the final exam schedule, final grades or commencement plans.
“The situation with the pandemic remains fluid, and we are prepared to pivot as needed, as we have had to this Fall,” Urban said.
The Registrar will be updated with changes to reflect the new dates, and more details on the semester will be announced over the next few weeks.
