On a night where the Hawks needed an inspiring performance to keep pace in a tight Patriot League race, the team came through with a stellar night on the offensive side of the ball.

The Lehigh men’s basketball team trounced Army, reaching a triple-digit score of 103-74 on Wednesday night at Stabler Arena.

The victory, which was its fourth in a row at home, puts the team above .500 in the Patriot League for the first time this year. They are now 6-5 in conference play and 12-10 overall. Army drops to 5-6 in the Patriot League.

The game started off very close, but Lehigh was able to extend its lead to 61-36 to end the first half. Lehigh scored 63.9 percent of its first half shots while Army made 42.9 percent of its shots.

“We were just trying to be aggressive as always,” sophomore guard Miles Simelton said. “We wanted to make sure we played really good defense and executed our plays offensively. We came out and did that really well.”

Simelton was a key player in Lehigh’s victory, scoring a career-high 18 points. Sophomore center Tim Kempton and junior forward Jesse Chuku also contributed to Lehigh’s strong offensive game with 17 and 14 points, respectively.

“Our guys had faith, they had confidence in each other,” coach Brett Reed said.

The Mountain Hawks kept their lead in the second half of the game with formidable defense, allowing Army to put in only 26.5 percent of its second half shots.

Lehigh played a great offensive game in the second half as well, reaching a season high of 103 total points.

Their passing game was executed very nicely, as the Mountain Hawks had over 25 assists by the end of the game.

“There was a lot of focus and the guys played hard. It felt good tonight,” senior forward Conroy Baltimore said.

Lehigh hopes to continue this two-game winning streak when the team plays Loyola University (Maryland) on Saturday.

“We just have to come back, practice hard tomorrow, practice hard Friday, and try to get the win,” Baltimore said.
