Lehigh softball ends regular season with 8-1 win over Colgate

Lehigh softball took an early lead with five runs in the top of the first inning, helping the Mountain Hawks to an 8-1 victory over Colgate University on Sunday afternoon at Eaton Street Field.

Junior infielder Morgan Decker put the Mountain Hawks on the board with a three-run home run in the first. Senior infielder Cassie Waggy and junior catcher Carissa Zito also drove in runs in the first.

This win concludes the regular season, which Lehigh finishes 36-7 overall and 16-2 in the Patriot League, placing them first in the league.

Sophomore Christine Campbell pitched a strong seven innings, giving up only two hits. Colgate’s only run was scored on a throwing error in the first inning.

The Mountain Hawks put three more on the board in the seventh inning with a double by freshman pitcher Cassie Lajeunesse and a single by junior infielder Alexis Watanabe, who was 3-5 on the day. The third run was scored on an error.

Colgate’s starting pitcher Kira Griswold, who faced eight batters in the first, received the loss.

Lehigh will host the Patriot League Tournament at Leadership Park beginning Thursday. Lehigh will play in the first game at noon against No. 4 seed Army. No. 2 seed Bucknell University will play No. 3 seed Colgate in the second game at approximately 2:30 p.m.
