Lehigh women’s basketball ends losing streak with 80-65 win over Lafayette

After losing its past three consecutive games, the Lehigh women’s basketball team pulled out a win Saturday in Easton against rival Lafayette College, 80-65.

Lehigh (16-10, 9-6 Patriot) won what was the 89th meeting between the two teams in program history, breaking the tie of 44-44. Martins led Lehigh with 23 points. Mann had 19 points, and senior forward Kerry Kinek finished with 13 points.

Lehigh controlled both halves, winning the first 41-32 and the second 39-33. Junior forward Lexi Martins made 10-of-16 field goals and sophomore guard Quinci Mann made 7-of-13. Lehigh held a solid free throw percentage at 75 percent in the first half and 100 percent in the second half.

Lafayette came in hot in the second quarter with seven points in the first minute, but Lehigh came back to lead the score to the halftime. Both teams started the third quarter scoring points, but Lehigh stayed ahead 58-49. In the fourth quarter, a 10-3 run put Lehigh ahead 68-52, and it held Lafayette to just three field goals to allow for a win.

The Mountain Hawks will face Colgate University next on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Stabler Arena.
