Lehigh women’s lacrosse blows out Lafayette 15-6

The Lehigh women’s lacrosse team came into its game against Lafayette in Easton on Wednesday evening on a mission to snap a three-game losing streak.

In the end, Lehigh was successful and defeated Lafayette College 15-6 with ease, breaking the losing streak.

Both teams were trying to overcome offensive struggles throughout the whole game and season. Lehigh came in shooting 36.2 percent.

The team started of strong with a 1-0 lead and a no-hesitation shot that landed in the back of the net. The Mountain Hawks then increased their lead to 2-0.

Within a few seconds, Lafayette quickly came back with a goal of its own, making the score 2-1 with 20 minutes left in the first half. Throughout the first half, both defenses were having issues trying to defend the ball, but then Lehigh managed to square up its defense and Lafayette struggled to stop Lehigh’s offense. Freshman attack/midfielder Haley Wentzel led the charge during the first half to bring the Mountain Hawks to a 5-1 lead, making it her fourth goal of the season. Furthermore, Lehigh finished up the half strong, outperforming its opponents with strong offensive plays along with tactical defensive plays.

In the second half, sophomore midfielder Lauren Beausoleil was able to complete her hat trick maneuvering through the Lafayette defense. She was able to double her goal total this season.

Lehigh will face No. 16 Loyola University (Maryland) next on Saturday at home at 4 p.m.
